The honest answer about kisspeptin benefits is that they're narrow, specific, and almost all measured over a few hours in a hospital research unit. Two things happen reliably. Give a healthy man kisspeptin and the two pituitary signals that drive the testes — LH and FSH — climb, and testosterone follows. Give it to someone distressed by low sexual desire and the parts of the brain that handle sexual cues respond differently than they do on placebo. That's the list. Nothing published shows it burning fat, building muscle, or lifting mood for weeks on end.
That narrowness isn't a knock on the compound. It's a description of how far the research has got. Kisspeptin sits above the reproductive hormone system rather than inside it — what does kisspeptin do walks through that cascade — and nearly everything published measures a few hours of hormone release, not months of how someone feels.
Which kisspeptin benefits have actually been measured
The first human study is still one of the clearest. Six healthy men were given a 90-minute drip of kisspeptin-54, the full-length form of the peptide, and LH, FSH and testosterone all rose (Dhillo 2005, JCEM 90(12):6609–15).
Then it got more interesting, and more complicated. A later study at Imperial College London gave the short form, kisspeptin-10, to healthy men and women. In men, LH and FSH climbed after doses as small as 0.3 nmol/kg. In women during the first half of the menstrual cycle, nothing moved at all — not into a vein, not under the skin, not by slow infusion. Women closer to ovulation did respond (Jayasena 2011, JCEM 96(12):E1963–72).
That result is worth sitting with, because no seller's page will tell you about it. Same compound, same doses, a clear response in men and nothing in half the menstrual cycle. Whatever kisspeptin does, it does through a system with its own timing, and it can only flip a switch that's ready to be flipped.
The brain studies are why people got interested
In 2017, 29 healthy young men each had two visits — one with kisspeptin, one with a dummy infusion, neither they nor the researchers knowing which was which — and had their brains scanned while they looked at sexual and couple-bonding images. On kisspeptin, the emotional centres of the brain lit up more for those images specifically, and the men reported less negative mood afterwards (Comninos 2017, J Clin Invest 127(2):709–19).
Two later trials took it to people who actually had the problem. Both enrolled adults with hypoactive sexual desire disorder — persistently low desire that genuinely bothers the person — and both used a single 75-minute infusion against a matched placebo.
In the women's trial, 40 were randomised and 32 completed both visits. Kisspeptin shifted activity in the regions that process erotic material and faces, and the size of that shift tracked with how distressed a woman was about her desire to begin with (Thurston 2022, JAMA Netw Open 5(10):e2236131). In the men's trial, 37 were randomised and 32 finished. Brain activity across the sexual-processing network moved against placebo by a moderate-to-large margin (Cohen d 0.81; 95% CI, 0.41–1.21; P = .003), and erectile response measured during the scan ran up to 56% higher than on placebo (Mills 2023, JAMA Netw Open 6(2):e2254313). Both papers report that kisspeptin was well tolerated with no adverse events.
Hold on to two things there. These were single infusions given in a hospital over roughly an hour, using the long form of the peptide. And what was measured was brain activity — a plausible early step, not a change in anyone's life over months.
If low desire is the real question, PT-141 is the compound most people end up weighing against it. It acts on a different receptor system further down the chain and has been through larger trials aimed at desire itself rather than at brain scans.
Four minutes is the practical catch
The same 2011 study timed how fast kisspeptin-10 leaves the blood. Its half-life — how long the body takes to clear half of what's circulating — was 3.8 minutes in men and 4.1 minutes in women. The long form, kisspeptin-54, lasts about 27 minutes.

What the newest study found
As of September 6, 2026, the day this article was written, the most recent human kisspeptin study was published on August 3, and it went straight at the question that matters most: does it keep working?
Researchers gave kisspeptin-10 under the skin to 15 healthy men, in three parts — a dose-finding session, five days of continuous infusion, and then twelve days of eight hours on and sixteen hours off. Running it continuously stopped paying: after five days, testosterone was still up but LH and FSH had fallen back to no different from the dummy infusion. The on-off pattern held. LH was still raised on day 12, and a test dose at the end still produced a response, meaning the receptor hadn't switched itself off (Yeung 2026, Eur J Endocrinol 195(2):206–16).
Fifteen healthy volunteers is physiology, not a treatment trial; the authors describe it as working out a protocol. It is still the first human evidence that repeated dosing can hold up when the timing is right — and that the wrong timing quietly stops working while you're still taking it.
Where it stands with regulators
There is no FDA-approved kisspeptin product, here or anywhere. Kisspeptin dispensed through Promise is a compounded medication, prepared by a licensed U.S. pharmacy against a prescription written for one person, and it is not FDA-approved. Compounded medications are not reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality.
One more piece of the regulatory picture is worth knowing. The FDA sorts the ingredients pharmacies have put forward for compounding into three groups, and kisspeptin-10 sits in the second — substances the agency says raise significant safety concerns. Its stated reason isn't that harm was seen. It's that a peptide like this may carry a risk of provoking an immune response by some routes, that impurities and chemical characterisation are complicated, and that the agency has "no, or only limited, safety-related information" for the routes proposed (FDA, certain bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks). As of September 6, 2026, the day this article was written, kisspeptin-10 was still in that group on the nominations list the FDA last updated on May 14, 2026.
None of that makes kisspeptin unavailable or unlawful. It means the evidence is thin, and thin evidence is an argument for a clinician in the room rather than a forum thread. A licensed provider reviews your history and either writes the prescription or declines — and people are declined.
What kisspeptin hasn't been shown to do
No published human trial shows kisspeptin causing weight loss, muscle gain, better sleep, or slower ageing. It isn't testosterone and it isn't a replacement for it; it works by asking your own system to make more, which means it needs a system capable of answering. It hasn't been studied in anyone for months at a stretch. And the desire trials measured brain activity and, in the men, erectile response — not a lasting change in a relationship.
