In brief.

This is the category where the marketing is loudest and the evidence is hardest to check, so it is worth being clear about what this page is not. Nothing here is offered to improve memory, intelligence, or concentration, and nothing here is offered to treat cognitive decline, anxiety, or any mood condition. Those are claims we will not make, because the research does not support them.

What is here is a single prescription treatment with a genuinely interesting mechanistic literature and a genuinely complicated evidence base. A licensed provider reviews every request and prescribes only when it is appropriate — not everyone qualifies, and in this category a decline is a common and reasonable outcome.

Two brain-health peptides, two different signals

Semax and Selank are offered together, but they come from different research lines and act on different things.

Semax is a synthetic analog of ACTH(4-10), a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone that lacks the parent hormone's hormonal activity. Research interest has centered on brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression and on measures of cognitive processing in animal and small human studies — mechanism-level work, not outcome-level proof.

Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin, a short immune peptide, modified for stability. Research interest there centers on anxiolytic signaling and on interactions with GABAergic and serotonergic pathways. The two are studied and used together because their signals are complementary, not because a combination is stronger.

Why the literature is hard to read

Both compounds were developed in Russia in the late twentieth century, and both are registered as medicines there. That history matters more than it sounds. Most of the human work on them was published in Russian-language journals, much of it in small trials, and relatively little has been replicated by independent groups or held to the standards a Western regulator would apply to a drug application.

The practical result is that you will find confident summaries online built on papers almost no one quoting them has read in the original. Neither Semax nor Selank is FDA-approved in the United States. Anyone telling you the evidence is settled is describing a literature that does not exist in the form they are implying.

What a visit involves, and when this is the wrong tool

Some things belong with a physician, not a peptide. New or progressive memory change is a symptom that deserves a real workup — thyroid function, B12, medications, sleep, mood, and cognitive testing all sit ahead of anything offered here. Anxiety and depression have established treatments with decades of evidence behind them, and starting somewhere else can cost years.

If the request is appropriate, the process is the same as anywhere on Promise: an intake that is its own clinical questionnaire, covering your history, current medications, and what you are actually experiencing; a licensed provider's review; and, if prescribed, a medication compounded and dispensed by a licensed U.S. pharmacy, with instructions and follow-up. If what you are describing is more about stress and sleep than cognition, calming and stress relief is the more appropriate place to start.

Common questions

Do I need a prescription for Semax / Selank?

Yes. It is prescription-only. A licensed provider reviews every request and prescribes only when treatment is medically appropriate for you.

Is Semax FDA-approved?

No. Neither Semax nor Selank is FDA-approved in the United States. Both are compounded medications, prepared for an individual patient by a state-licensed U.S. pharmacy under a provider's prescription. Compounded medications are not reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality.

What are Semax and Selank?

Semax is a synthetic analog of ACTH(4-10), a hormone fragment without the parent hormone's hormonal activity; research interest centers on BDNF expression and cognitive processing. Selank is a synthetic analog of the immune peptide tuftsin; research interest centers on anxiolytic signaling and GABAergic and serotonergic pathways.

Why do people say the evidence is unclear?

Because most of the human research was conducted and published in Russia, often in small studies and in Russian-language journals, with limited independent replication. That is a real limitation, and we would rather state it than quote conclusions the underlying papers do not carry.

I have noticed memory changes. Is this the right place to start?

No. New or progressive memory change deserves a medical workup — thyroid function, B12, medication review, sleep, mood, and cognitive testing come first. Speak with your physician.
