What is thymosin alpha-1?
Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid peptide first isolated from the thymus, the gland where immune T cells mature, and it is studied for its effects on immune signaling. A thymosin alpha-1 drug (thymalfasin) is approved in some countries outside the United States; in the U.S., no thymosin alpha-1 product is FDA-approved.
These articles cover its history, what the trials measured, side effects, and how it differs from thymosin beta-4. Compounded thymosin alpha-1 is prescription-only: a licensed provider reviews every request, and not everyone qualifies.

Thymosin Alpha 1 Sepsis Trial: What TESTS Found
TESTS found no clear reduction in sepsis deaths: 23.4% with thymosin alpha-1 versus 24.1% with placebo. Its subgroup findings remain tentative.

Who Discovered Thymosin Alpha 1? Goldstein’s Team
Goldstein, White and Slater reported thymosin in 1966. A larger team isolated alpha-1 in 1977, opening the path to synthetic thymalfasin and Zadaxin.

Is Thymosin Alpha 1 FDA Approved? The Full Record
No thymosin alpha-1 product has ever been FDA-approved. Its U.S. record runs from four orphan designations to a 4–17 advisory vote in December 2024, and FDA has not yet written a rule.

Thymosin Alpha-1 Benefits: What Studies Show
Thymosin alpha-1 has a credible immune-modulating mechanism, but its human evidence is condition-specific and mixed. The strongest trials do not support a blanket promise of stronger immunity.

Thymosin Alpha-1 Side Effects: What Trials Found
Published trials most consistently report local injection-site discomfort; fatigue and rash are uncommon and often hard to attribute. The limits are long-term exposure and the difference between studied thymalfasin and a compounded vial.

Peptides for Autoimmune Disease: The Evidence
Thymosin Alpha-1 has meaningful human immune-modulation research, while KPV remains mostly a cell-and-animal finding; neither has clinical evidence that makes it an autoimmune treatment.

Thymosin Alpha-1 Dosage: What Trials Used
Published thymalfasin protocols range from 1.6 mg twice weekly for months in hepatitis studies to every-12-hour hospital regimens in sepsis. Those trial schedules explain the numbers online; they are not a personal dosing plan.
